A report from LMI Group International highlights that the recent discovery of an unknown painting by Van Gogh should not be surprising, given that the artist lost many of his works and gave some away to friends. Although the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam has not yet attributed the painting to the famous Dutch painter, it is known that throughout his life Van Gogh created around 900 works. Van Gogh is believed to have suffered from bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder, although they were never formally diagnosed. The artist was committed to a psychiatric hospital after cutting off his ear in 1888 and died by suicide in 1890 at the age of 37.

The art research company LMI Group International has confirmed that a painting acquired at a garage sale in Minnesota is actually an original work by Van Gogh. The painting, measuring 45.7 by 41.9 centimeters, dates back to 1889 and was created by the Dutch painter while he was at a psychiatric hospital in the south of France. Experts, tasked with analyzing the fabric of the canvas, the pigment, and other characteristics of the work, suggest that it was completed by Van Gogh a year before his death.

It is an oil portrait on canvas depicting a bearded fisherman smoking a pipe while mending his net. In the lower right corner, there is an inscription with the word "Elimar."
