The prestigious World Press Photo contest is celebrating its 70th anniversary. Joumana El Zein Khoury, executive director of the foundation, reflected in an interview with EFE on the importance of the institution's archive. She noted that many images from the archive could be current, despite being up to 50 years old.
"History repeats itself, and there are images that could be from today, but in reality, they are from 50 years ago," Khoury pointed out. The executive director emphasized how, over the decades, the captured photographs have reflected that, despite challenges, humanity continues to move forward.
World Press Photo has witnessed iconic and impactful moments throughout its history, showcasing the rawness and beauty of life through the lens of talented photojournalists. In its 70 years of existence, this contest has been a reference for understanding the complexity and diversity of the world we live in.
