Dutch University Develops Tools for Youth Digital Resilience

A new study from Leiden University in the Netherlands proposes a framework to provide scientists, schools, parents, and policymakers with tools to foster youth resilience in the digital age. With the proliferation of social media, young people are constantly exposed to a stream of information, not all of which is accurate or reliable, which negatively impacts their cognitive development and decision-making processes. Youth are more vulnerable to misinformation on social media, yet insights from developmental psychology indicate they possess unique strengths that can be leveraged to build resilience. The study revealed that young people are more likely to believe and share false information compared to older age groups.
