The plane transporting former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte arrived at Rotterdam-The Hague Airport in the Netherlands on Wednesday afternoon. Duterte, 79 years old, was detained upon returning to Manila on Tuesday morning, according to an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) for his "war on drugs" campaign, an action he questioned. He departed from Manila to The Hague on Tuesday night, confirmed ICC spokesperson Fadi El Abdallah via email.
"Once the suspect is in the custody of the ICC, an initial appearance hearing will be scheduled," El Abdallah stated via email on Wednesday, adding that more details will be provided in due course. On the other hand, the Vice President of the Philippines, Sara Duterte, left for the Netherlands on Wednesday morning. Previously, she had expressed that she would accompany her father in The Hague during the ICC proceedings.
Rotterdam-The Hague Airport, located northwest of Rotterdam, is about 20 kilometers from The Hague.
